LMN has been serving landscapers since 2009 and, per its own site, counts more than 3,000 North American landscaping companies as customers — a long operating history and an established user base that a newer project cannot match. It is a broad, all-in-one operations platform: budgeting, estimating, scheduling, CRM, invoicing, and job costing sit alongside snow-specific tools for tracking plow passes, salt applications, and proof of service, all under one vendor and spanning both the landscaping and snow/ice seasons. Wintertrace does not attempt any of that breadth — it stays focused on winter-service documentation.
LMN also offers a dedicated estimating product area, native payment processing through LMN Pay (powered by Stripe), QuickBooks/CSV import for client data, and Zapier integrations from its Professional tier up. Its training ecosystem is substantial: an “LMN Online Academy” video library plus dedicated onboarding/launch programs for each plan tier, backed by a company (now Granum) that also runs SingleOps for tree care and Greenius for crew training. Contractors who want one vendor covering estimating, scheduling, billing, and snow operations together — with a mature product and a large peer community — are well served by LMN.
Where Wintertrace makes a different offer
Wintertrace is open source (AGPLv3) and self-hosted: you run it on your own server rather than a vendor’s cloud, and there is no subscription for the software itself — only the cost of hosting it. That also means the underlying job, customer, GPS, and photo data stays on infrastructure you control, rather than a vendor’s platform, for as long as you want to keep it.
The other structural difference is extensibility. Wintertrace ships a focused core for winter-service documentation, then grows through installable modules — rather than a fixed, vendor-defined feature set or a tiered per-seat subscription. Operators who need a specific capability can add the corresponding module instead of waiting on a vendor roadmap or upgrading to a higher-priced tier for a bundle of features they don’t need. Who should pick what
If you run a landscaping business that also does snow and ice work, and you want a single subscription covering estimating, scheduling, CRM, billing, and crew training alongside snow tracking — with a large, mature vendor and an established peer network behind it — LMN’s breadth is the more direct fit.
If you mainly run winter-service work and want to own your data and your tooling, without paying per-seat for a landscaping-wide operations suite, Wintertrace is built for that. The two are not mutually exclusive: some operators run LMN for landscaping-side estimating and billing while keeping a self-hosted documentation trail for winter-service jobs alongside it.
